American singer/songwriter, Dean Friedman, to embark on a 24 city UK/Ireland/Scotland tour to coincide with the airing of his BBC Radio Scotland series, ‘Dean Friedman’s Real American Folk’.
Chart topping recording artist, Dean Friedman, best known to UK/Scotland/Ireland audiences for his classic hits, ‘Lucky Stars’, ‘Lydia’, ‘McDonald’s Girl’, ‘Ariel’ and ‘Woman of Mine’, is embarking on a 24 city UK/Scotland/Ireland concert tour beginning July 7 in Dublin and ending August 17 in Glenfarg, Scotland.
The summer tour coincides with the broadcast of a six part radio series he has been commissioned to present for BBC Radio Scotland, entitled, ‘Dean Friedman’s Real American Folk’.
The series, currently in production in Friedman’s own Honking Goose Studios, will present the music, stories and spirit of the Hudson Valley region of New York, where Friedman makes his home.
Friedman last tour garnered rave reviews: “Every song in this show is a classic. You won't see a better show.” – London Theatre Guide. “With his mix of jaunty ditties, sentimental ballads and bashful charm, Friedman is the pop troubador of choice.” The Scotsman. Without doubt an amazing talent. – The Sun
Friedman will be performing solo, on guitar and keyboards, featuring songs from throughout his 30 year recording career, including familiar radio hits, ‘Lucky Stars’, ‘Lydia’, ‘McDonald’s Girl’, ‘Ariel’ and ‘Woman of Mine’, as well as selections from his more recent CD’s, including the critically acclaimed, ‘Squirrels in the Attic’ – comedy songs for adults.
Friedman’s last UK tour experienced some controversy following the decision by Friedman and his tour sponsor, goldenseed.co.uk , to distribute free cannabis seeds to purchasers of his ‘Squirrels in the Attic’ CD, to celebrate one of its tracks, ‘Doint, Doint, It’s Just a Little Joint’ (the un-germinated seeds are legal in the UK.).
Says Friedman, ‘Within 24 hours of the announcement, 24 of the 25 venues on the tour threatened to cancel. We eventually reached an accommodation, although I did point out to the complaining venues that they make a good portion of their income selling alcohol during intermission, a substance which is known to be far more toxic than cannabis.’
Friedman insists he will definitely not be distributing any cannabis seeds on this upcoming tour.
