'Rumpled Romeo' - A Lyric Puzzle
by Matthew Lees

Hey Folks, here's another extremely entertaining puzzle from the baffling mind of Matt Lees. It's based on songs from my third album, Rumpled Romeo, and it's guaranteed to tickle your funny bone.

“Rumpled Romeo” – A Lyrical Puzzle

by Matthew Lees

Dean’s mind must have been rumpled when he began writing the songs for the album way back in the early ‘80s. The lyrics just didn’t make sense!

Below are 10 lyrics from his “original” drafts of the 10 songs on the album. Luckily, he later got his head together, broke up these lyrics into two parts, and then put each of the parts into different songs.

Each of the 10 songs from the album has lyrics that appear in two excerpts below, represented by one phrase that starts a lyric, and one phrase that ends a lyric. To get you started, the answer is given to #1 below.

Can you identify the songs that the other 9 excerpts come from?

(Only songs from the original album appear below; bonus tracks from the CD are not included. Some liberties have been taken with punctuation.)

  1. “He was a rumpled romeo in a mild depression.

Answer:

Love is Real: “He was a rumpled romeo with a 10-speed bike and a stereo…”

Buy My Baby a Car: “My baby’s in a mild depression…”

  1. “She is an angel in a UFO.”
  2. “Will he drive you right up the wall?”
  3. “I depend on sexy legs and a perfect bod.”
  4. “Daddy, Roger punched me in the Oreos.”
  5. “I never want to be without your library card.”
  6. “Are your cheeks soaking wet from the storm?”
  7. “I got a date tonight with the only other virgin I know.”
  8. “Thanks I said, but are you certain that you’re old enough?”
  9. “Buy a present for my honey, with a note that says “straighten out the living room.””

Song List:

First Date / McDonald’s Girl / Are You Ready Yet? / Hey, Larry / Love Is Real

Buy My Baby a Car / Special Effects/ I Depend on You / Marginal Middle Class / I Will Never Leave You
