From: Patrick Stubbs Subject: 'Arienne
not Ariel'
Text: Dear Dean:
I was at a Kyle Vincent concert a few weeks ago and when he asked for requests I shouted out “Ariel” (confusing your song with his, which is entitled “Arienne”). Vincent smiled and said, “No, mine is ‘Arienne’, you’re thinking of Dean Friedman!” So you got a plug in front of a few hundred people. Wishing you and your family a fun-filled summer! Patrick Stibbs EDITOR's REPLY: Hey Patrick, thanks for the Freudian plug. By the way, did you know that Ariel is the name of one of the twenty one moons orbiting the planet Uranus? Really! For more info check out: http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/astronomy/planets/uranus/uranusmoons.shtml Subject: 'Deanography' Text: Hey Deano,
I
was just wondering if there's any plans to do an autobiography in the
future? If not, would you consider releasing a book featuring all
your songs/lyrics and a bit of background info on what inspired you on
each song etc etc?
I
know you did this on the 'Songs for Grownups' album but having this
information on each of your songs plus the handy bonus of having them
all in one book, would be great!
Look forward to your reply,
Kat
EDITOR's REPLY (aka Deano): Well, Kat, one of these days, I definitely do plan on sitting down at my alpha-numeric keyboard and writing about 'what a strange trip it's been', if only to help explain to my kids how they wound up being raised by such quirky parents. But I keep waiting for it to have the classic Hollywood-style movie ending; you know, where our hapless hero overcomes insurmountable odds to finally gain international mega-stardom and financial success on his own terms, without kowtowing to the mindless, spirit-crushing edicts of the multi-national entertainment machine... but it seems to be taking a while longer than I'd envisioned ;-) So, maybe I'll just put that part in the sequel. (sure, Dean). As for songs/lyrics and a song-book, I swear I've been trying to get it done for years, but it's a huge time-consuming and expensive venture, which I can't do without paid help, so, I'm afraid it's still gonna take a while. I will get it done, though. So, just make sure to eat well and stay healthy so you live to a ripe old age and therefore long enough for me to deliver on all these earnest promises. O.K. well, maybe it won't take that long, so you don't have to eat that well, if you don't want to. I appreciate your asking about it though, because it does encourage me to keep at it. Subject: 'Verisimilitude' Text: Dear Editor,
I
don't mean to be provocative here, but, are these 'Letters to the
Editor' genuine or did you just make them up like you did in the first
issue?
Mildly Quizzical EDITOR's REPLY: Actually, Quizzical, these are definitely the 'genuine article', well, expect for this one... I mean, the first two are real 'Letters to the Editors' but this last one, I just made up to clarify the issue, although in doing so I can see now I've managed to confuse the issue all over again. If you follow me. Uh... What was the question again?
