"An Open Letter to Family, Friends & Fans"

June 1, 1999

Hi Everybody, I know it's been a pretty long while since I've written you all, but, well, I can explain. You see, it's like this... I've been, uh, well, I've been in the studio... recording. That's right. I've actually been busy recording a brand new album.

Amazing, huh? Just a few months ago, after months of nerve wracking negotiations I finally secured the financing to produce the album I've been wanting to make for almost two decades!

Those of you that have been following this ridiculous saga over the years, know that making this deal and, at long last, being able to go into the studio and record a new album, is the realization of a long-lived and totally unrealistic goal of mine. Just goes to show you what a little stubbornness and absurdly high-risk strategizing can accomplish. Only a few short months ago the idea that I might finally be able to record and release a new album again seemed implausible, to say the least. And yet, by the time you are reading this my first album in 17 years will have been pressed packaged and shrink wrapped and ready to be shipped to your doorstep. ( CLICK HERE TO ORDER NEW CD.)

Life is pretty strange as you all know. I can't really describe what it felt like to be in the studio again - amazingly terrific and terrifying at the same time. Anyway, it's finally done and it's full of great tracks that I'm really proud of and eager for you all to hear.

The name of the album is Songs For Grownups and for those of you familiar with my work-in-progress tape of the same name it contains new studio versions of many of those original tunes such as Saturday Fathers and Jennifer's Baby as well as a whole bunch of new stuff including tracks like Little Black Cloud, Put You In My Pocket, Hale Bop She Bop and a really cool tune all about hanging out with my favorite Superheroes entitled Hob Nobbin' (with Batman and Robin). It's a collection of songs - short stories, really - all about real life. Songs for Grownups - songs about adoption, adultery, divorce, murder, suicide - (it's sort of a family album).

The album is a double CD package and contains 28 tracks. If I can be immodest for a moment here... This is an amazing album that I'm extremely proud of; my best work representing 20 years of songwriting and musicianship. If you like the stuff I've done in the past, you'll love this album.

By the way, if you just stumbled upon this website, after searching for my music for the last 20 years, where've you been?! Anyway, I'm glad you finally found me. Check out the rest of the site and don't forget to add your name to the email list.

Meanwhile, I'd just like to say a very big thank you to all of you for having provided the encouragement and support that enabled me to persevere all these years.

I hope you'll feel it was worth the wait.

Yours,
